LifeCycle, a European consortium in which EDEN participates, has recently established the European Network of Birth Cohorts (EU Child Cohort Network).
The EU Child Cohort Network is a European network of pregnancy and childhood cohort studies, bringing together extensive existing data on more than 250,000 European children and their parents. These cohorts enable multi-generational studies through detailed phenotyping of both parents and children. The network will bring together existing multidisciplinary cohorts that all began before or during pregnancy or during childhood. Together, they cover the entire lifespan and contain detailed phenotypic information as well as biological samples.
While LifeCycle partners and their cohorts initiated this unique collaboration, the network is open to other partners with cohorts that started early in life. To ensure that this network is open and sustainable on a European scale, a data sharing platform taking into account ethical, legal, and societal implications will be introduced, annual meetings open to all European researchers working on these cohorts will be organized, and exchange fellowship programs among European partners will be launched.
